If you want your listeners to become customers, you have to say what to do! You can’t say something generic like “For more information, visit my website.” That is just silly. It rarely evokes an emotional response of “Oh yeah! I need to do this right now!” Instead, your listeners just click and go about their day.
You must leave them with a strong call to action! You have to leave them a command to do something specific!
If you’re directing them to your lead magnet for a specific reason (for example, to get a free report or checklist), you need to tell them what to do!
“To get this free checklist, go to (URL) and click” give me my checklist. “
When you give specific instructions like this, some will do exactly what you told them to do. But yeah, when they go to the URL you directed them to visit and they don’t see the “Give me my checklist” button clearly, most will just click to exit.
You need to make sure that your offer is exactly what you told them it would be when they follow your instructions. Don’t force them to do anything else. Don’t make them read and scroll down the page. Don’t make them watch a video. Don’t force them to do anything except click the button you told them to click!
Once they fill out the name and email address form, you should immediately redirect them to the resource they requested. Immediately.
I mean, “immediately!”
Don’t send them to a generic page that says “Check your email in ten minutes” or anything like that. Give them exactly what you promised. No wait. There are no other offers. No upsells. Just what they asked for.
You have your email right now (in your autoresponder). Now you can send them additional information and resources. But not in the right way. Don’t try to sell them.
These are your listeners. You have achieved an important milestone by making your podcast listener want to move forward on the journey of becoming a prospect by taking the first step in your relationship. They gave you permission to contact them!
This is huge in the online world!
They have taken the first step by indicating that they want to establish a closer relationship with you. They are not completely trusting you right now. They have only taken the first step.
But, when you use these tips to build that trust, you have now successfully moved a listener to your list and can begin the process of personalizing your relationship and building additional value for them over time.
Keep getting closer to them. Do not sell them anything. Just to thank them for joining your list. Give them additional tips and information to help them improve their lives.
If you have a program called “10 tips for xyz”, you don’t have to give them all ten tips in one email. Create ten emails and analyze each tip in detail. How it will help them. How they can implement it. Email them every day, Monday through Friday, for two weeks.
When you communicate with your customers in this way, they will see the value you bring to them and will start to trust you even more. Confidence is the most important thing you can earn in the online world.
Trust is difficult to build but easy to lose.
So don’t take “building trust” for granted!
By taking the time to build their confidence by providing them with information that they can use, grow, and improve their life, you will develop the confidence that you are looking for.
So when you offer them another product or service, that person who trusts you will be more willing to accept the purchase. Why? Because you have shown that they can trust you.
