Nick Vujicic is not an ordinary person, he is an extraordinary person. Extraordinary because he has a difficult battle every day, since he was born without arms or legs. The condition is called phocomelia and it is a very rare disorder, which can manifest itself in many different ways. For Vujicic it meant bullying and depression as a child, but he overcame all of that and became a motivational speaker, but not before completing a double major in college and winning many awards.
When Nick Vujicic was young, he taught himself to stand up. He has two small deformed feet that, after surgery to remove one’s toes, he can use them to lift things, turn the pages of a book, use a telephone, and many other everyday things that we all take for granted. The point is, even at a young age, he didn’t give in to his disability, he devised ways to work with what he had, and he didn’t think about his limitations. What limitations? You can do what you want and do it well.
His motivational speech has a message and is also deeply rooted in Christianity. Not only does it tell people to get over it and stay positive, it gives them a message of hope that also extends to a personal relationship with God. The thought here is that if He made you a certain way, then He has a use for you in this world. He also urges people to learn to accept that the gift of life is great and something to be cherished, not thrown away because of a disability. His speech also covers the aspect of hope where obstacles can be turned into opportunities. As he did as a child, you must overcome obstacles and find a way to get around them. Who better than Nick Vujicic to teach young people going through emotional or physical situations that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel?
When he doesn’t speak, and has spoken more than 3,000 times in more than fifty-seven countries, he lives in Southern California, where he likes to fish, swim, and paint. Nick Vujicic is married with two children and loves life, because after all, life is the gift we should all be thankful for!
