SWTOR Crew skills are a bit different than other MMO professions, as you don’t have to do any of the gathering or crafting yourself. Crew Skills allow you to assign the task to your companions while continuing to search, PvP, or do any other part of the game that interests you.
Once you reach level 10, you will be able to choose the abilities of your crew. There are 3 types of skills to choose from: Crafting, Gathering, and Mission. You can only have a total of 3 skills at a time and are limited to 1 crafting skill. So basically you will have 3 pickups, 3 quests, 1 craft with 2 pickups, 1 craft with 2 quests, or 1 craft with 1 pickup and 1 quest.
Collection of skills: You can choose up to 3 gathering skills for your character.
- Archeology – Allows you to find imbued items such as lightsaber crystals and ancient artifacts. The extracted crystals provide resources for Artifice and Synthweaving.
- Bioanalysis: allows you to collect genetic material from creatures and plants. These elements are used by Biochem.
- Collection: allows you to recover materials and useful pieces of old or damaged technology. These materials are used in Cybertech, Armstech, and Armormech.
- Slicing – Lets you access secure computer systems and safes to acquire valuable data and rare schematics. The information is used primarily in Cybertech.
Mission skills: You can have up to 3 mission skills for your character
- Diplomacy: the art of conducting and managing negotiations. This provides medical supplies, complimentary gifts, and light / dark spots.
- Investigation: the ability to examine evidence and follow clues to uncover valuable secrets. This provides prototype schematics, research composites, and complimentary gifts.
- Treasure Hunting – the ability to track down and recover valuable objects by investigating a series of clues. This provides safes, gemstones, and complimentary gifts.
- Underworld Trading: experience in trading illegal goods and services. This provides luxurious fabrics, custom schemes, and complementary gifts.
Crafting skills: You can only have 1 crafting skill for your character.
- Armormech: This ability allows you to create personal armor using hard metals and electronic armor.
- Armstech – This skill allows you to craft various weapons such as blasters, assault cannons, and sniper rifles. You can also make weapon upgrades and modifications.
- Artifice: This ability allows you to build Jedi and Sith artifacts as lightsaber mods.
- Biochemistry: This ability allows the creation of chemical serums and biological implants that improve performance.
- Cybertech – This ability allows you to craft droid armor, headsets, grenades, armor, mods, and various gadgets.
- Synthweaving: This ability allows you to create lighter armor and outfits that are infused with supernatural qualities for Force users.
After choosing your crafting skills, you are granted the ability to reverse engineer certain items in your inventory. Reverse engineering splits items into components that you can then use to create new items, including a higher-quality version of the same item. You can reverse engineer most of the items you create and some items that you find in the world. When an item is reversed, the item is destroyed in the process, so be careful what you select.
