When using a vibrator, a good lubricant can be essential. But you’ve heard all the horror stories about how some lube can melt your favorite vibrator. And the options… there used to be only one option in a personal lubricant, but these days there are so many, how do you know which one to choose or even begin to find out? Flavored, warm, silicone, water-hypoallergenic, or all-natural, there are almost as many lubes as there are vibrators to use. Maybe I should get a new vibrator to use with each type of lube. You may still not be sure which lube you like best, but you’ll have a lot of fun with all your new sex toys trying it out.
This article will give you an overview of the lubricants available and what each one does so you can at least make an informed decision instead of just grabbing whatever it is. The right lube can make your time with your vibrator even more enjoyable than it already is.
Water-based lubricants: Water-based lubricants are very versatile. They can usually be used with any vibrating material and with a condom when needed. The downside of this lube is that it can dry out fast or get sticky, when that happens you can reactivate it with water.
Oil-Based Lubricant – An oil-based lubricant is very slippery and does not dry out, but it has several drawbacks. Oil-based lubricants usually come as a thick cream like petroleum jelly or a very thick liquid. It is not recommended for use with your vibrator for a couple of reasons. Oil can damage latex, jelly, and silicone toys and can dirty your vibrator’s control panel.
Silicone-based lubricants: Silicone-based lubricants can be a lot of fun. They are ultra slippery and do not dry out. You can even use silicone-based lube underwater, but you can’t use them with a silicone-based vibrator or any silicone-based sex toys. The reason is that silicone sticks to silicone and eats away at it. How fresh nail polish will do to the old coat.
Flavored – Flavored lubes can be fun when used with a partner. There are very few things as erotic as licking the taste of your lover. When using a flavored lube, make sure it’s water-based and wash it off when you’re done, as the sugar can cause an infection if you don’t.
Warming Lubes: There’s nothing like the heat when your lover gently blows on a warming lube and gets hotter than gel.
Natural lubricants: Natural lubricants are hypoallergenic, free of glycerin and parabens for a more natural choice. They’re also usually PH balanced for a woman’s body, so they don’t cause yeast infections, even if they’re not washed off quickly. But you will need to be careful when choosing this type as some have a silicone base which is not good for a silicone based vibrator. If you want to use a natural lubricant, get one that is water-based.
