One of the benefits of reaching puberty is that a man finally gets to experience the incomparable sensation of a sexual orgasm. The body is finally ready to take you through arousal, erection, increased stimulation, and all the way to orgasmic ejaculation. And as long as penile health is maintained and there are no other penile problems (or health problems that affect penile performance), a man is poised for a multitude of orgasmic ejaculations throughout his life. Unfortunately, some men can experience something called anhedonic ejaculation, which can have a serious negative effect on their enjoyment of sex, whether alone or with a partner.
not premature
Anhedonic ejaculation is not the same as premature ejaculation, which is one of the most common penis problems a man can encounter. With premature ejaculation, a man discovers that he releases his semen too soon. In terms of clinical definitions, “too soon” means that less than a minute elapses between the penetration of the penis into the vagina and the release of semen. In practice, however, the time period that defines premature ejaculation depends on the point of view of the man, and also his partner.
Anhedonic ejaculation is also different from other penile problems such as retrograde ejaculation or anejaculation.
About anhedonic ejaculation
So what is anhedonic ejaculation? In a nutshell, this describes a situation where a man ejaculates, but does not experience that wonderful orgasmic feeling associated with ejaculation. (Anhedonic essentially means “without pleasure.”)
It’s easy to see why this is one of the most frustrating penis problems. Although men have sex for a variety of reasons (including as a way to have a deeper connection and relationship with a loved one), one of the main attractions of sex is orgasm. Without that orgasm, a man may not be as interested in sex. His libido may decrease, or his frustration at not being able to orgasm may lead to erection problems. He may also feel somewhat less of a man if he can ejaculate but without pleasure.
not ruined
It’s important to note the difference between anhedonic ejaculation and what’s called a “ruined orgasm.” The former is a chronic problem, while the latter is something that can happen from time to time. With a botched orgasm, the source of stimulation to the penis (a hand, a vagina, a mouth, etc.) is removed from the penis a little too soon; the penis is still so stimulated that he ejaculates, but without that little extra stimulation, there is less or no pleasurable sensation.
Causes
Anhedonic ejaculation occurs when the brain stops releasing a sufficient amount of dopamine during ejaculation. This can be due to a number of factors, including the use of certain antidepressants. Low testosterone levels are also often blamed, and depression or other mental health issues can also lead to this condition. Some men who sustain spinal cord injuries may be more likely to develop anhedonic ejaculation.
Men with anhedonic ejaculation should see a doctor to help identify the likely cause of the problem. When that is discovered, the doctor can advise what steps to take for treatment.
Penile problems such as anhedonic ejaculation can be difficult to resolve, but success is likely to be enhanced when the penis is in good health. Daily application of a premium penis health oil (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil which is clinically proven to be gentle and safe on the skin) can be useful in this regard. When searching, look for an oil that includes L-arginine and L-carnitine. The first is an amino acid that increases nitric oxide production and helps keep the blood vessels in the penis open. The latter has neuroprotective properties that may be valuable in helping to maintain proper penile sensation.
