As the Pink Chanel Suit episode begins, we arrive at the funeral of the mother of federal judge Pauline Fitz-William (Cristine Rose). Pauline requests that ella’s daughter Sophie track down ella’s sister, ella’s Abbey, as she has yet to show up at her funeral. When Sophie goes to Abbey’s room, she finds Abbey’s boyfriend murdered on the floor. Abbey’s boyfriend appeared to have been steadied in the back.
Agent Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and Agent Cho (Tim Kang) arrive on the scene and Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) is nowhere to be found. The team begins searching the room for clues and quickly discovers that Abbey has yet to be found. Due to the high-ranking nature of the judge and her wealth, the property remains under heavy security scrutiny by the security team. According to the head of security, no one saw Abbey leave the property after checking in the previous morning. The fact that Abbey is the prime murder suspect leads to some confusion among the team about her whereabouts.
Patrick Jane is more than elegantly late as usual, making a scene with the security guard as he questions why he has to go through the metal detector. Frustrated that his rank didn’t get him past security, Jane insists that the head of security go through the metal detector as well. When she does, Jane puts coins in her pocket to make the alarm go off. This scene alone is worth watching the show.
The crowd is shocked when Patrick Jane announces that Abbey has most likely been murdered and is hiding somewhere on the estate. She confirms this after she tries to steal the rug from Pauline’s office (because it resembled the size of an adult body) to see if she could get past security. The security team quickly spots Jane trying to get through the weakest point of her security, proving that Abbey could not have left the grounds.
Jane resorts to a classic diversionary tactic by telling everyone that he thinks Abbey was hiding in the coffin with the judge’s mother. Jane, of course, delivers her speech during the funeral ceremony as only selfish Jane can. The family, quite upset by the idea of opening the coffin, agrees to humor Jane, believing that she is right. Jane is proven wrong when Dr. Saban opens the coffin to reveal only the body of the Judge’s mother.
This, of course, was just a ruse by Jane to determine the reactions of the suspects in order to find the culprit. Jane and Lisbon end up hiding by the coffin overnight to finally catch the killer. Dr. Saban, who had been helping Abbey with her drug addiction, accidentally gave Abbey an overdose and killed her. Dr. Saban panicked when he killed Abbey and ended up killing her boyfriend as well when he came across the botched procedure. The doctor was able to hide Abbey’s body, but needed to get rid of it soon so it wouldn’t be found during the investigation. It was Jane’s brilliance that gave Dr. Saban the idea to hide Abbey in the coffin.
