Every licensed real estate agent must demonstrate a certain basic level of professionalism and knowledge in order to become licensed in their state. However, in the real world, not all agents are the same! Many characteristics are involved, including experience, empathy, integrity, behavior/ethical standards, marketing/selling/negotiation skills and experience, etc. However, after more than a decade, as a licensed seller of real estate in New York State, I believe that perhaps the most important consideration a prospective client must make is whether the representative/agent adheres to the highest standards of ethical and genuine behavior ETHICS. This is not only necessary, but is required by most states as well as Real Estate Boards. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why it is such an important consideration.
1. Whole; empathy; vision: Your agent must recognize, realize, and articulate the full, larger picture, not just convenient information. I firmly believe in my trademark slogan, I will always tell you what you need to know, not just what you want to hear! (TM) When these standards are combined with a willingness to listen, learn and proceed with genuine empathy, the individual sets himself apart from the rest of the pack! Great agents see possibilities and serve their customers effectively!
two. Prompt: An ethical agent should never procrastinate, but rather proceed consistently, with timely and well-considered action! Hire someone to follow up and keep track of all possibilities, etc.
3. Heart head: There are both emotional and logical components to ethical representation! The emotional includes caring about clients and their best interests! The logical component requires realizing that it is a duty and a responsibility to proceed with the highest level of fiduciary responsibility and to protect/serve the best interests of the client. I refer to this as the head/heart balance of being a quality real estate agent!
Four. Integrity; ideas; ideology; imagination: One must possess genuine integrity, especially when taking a shortcut and/or path of least resistance may be easier! Look for someone with the best combination of relevant ideas, quality core ideology, and imagination to make a significant difference, for the better!
5. Character; cooperate; clarity: Measure the quality of one’s character and willingness to proceed, with a willingness to cooperate! Great agents should proceed, with the level of clarity, that makes the entire transaction period more comfortable and less stressful for their clients!
6. Service; system; arrange: Ask yourself if the agent you hire prioritizes service and demonstrates a professional sales and marketing system that provides the solutions you seek.
ETHICS it is an essential component and a necessity of being a professional real estate agent. How can one represent it, without the utmost ethics and integrity?
