As coordinator of a think tank, one that operates online, I am not at all surprised how often the topic of education comes up. He seems to stick his head out of just about every major topic of discussion as he tries to solve humanity’s most pressing problems. When it comes to poverty and hunger, we talk about educating farmers, when it comes to unemployment, we talk about educating workers, and when it comes to economic calamities, we talk about educating consumers and businesses on financial issues.
Okay, let’s talk because I think there needs to be a new baseline, globally, for education.
First, understand that these recommendations are not out of a “globalist” mentality, but simply to help everyone and keep things fair in free markets, trade, and across the planet, from the third world to the first. Without the proper education, many children and communities around the world simply don’t have a chance. For example, in rural Honduras, children need a proper education and villages need to learn how to make bricks, how to make septic tanks and how to purify water.
Just these little things, if taught to everyone at a young age, will solve big problems. If people can learn the basics of building a house, laying a foundation, building a retaining wall, a bridge, etc., it can help them live a happier and healthier life; In addition, they need to be able to access this information in their language and/or with illustrations and plans that are very easy to read and understand. Granted, this is just one aspect of why a global mandatory minimum for human education is needed across the planet.
Notice too, I’m just throwing this out there. Think of a slum in Africa, perhaps the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya, where 880,000 people live in just 2.2 square miles. Children are born into these conditions and may never enjoy a fruitful life, and those who survive to adolescence and adulthood will not have had a proper education. Yes, there are community organizations working hard to educate these children, but they will need internet access, job skills, and basic education.
Without an educated population, communities cannot flourish and prosper, and neither can their country. Every individual will need a fighting chance and I would say there is a modicum of understanding needed in the world, there are things that humans need to know if they want to move forward. Please consider all this and think about it.
