For the uninitiated, “holiday park” refers to a popular type of holiday destination in the UK. Typically, custom-built mobile homes are permanently installed on the land, offer various amenities (at a minimum, laundry and convenience stores), and provide a comfortable home base from which you can explore the surrounding region. However, there are also parks whose description goes far beyond that basic model.
Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is one of 35 properties owned by Haven Holidays and is less park than village. There are small towns that do not offer the facilities and activities that you will find here, and that is the subject of today’s article.
Located in the far south of the county of Devon, in the south west corner of England, Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is perfectly situated as a starting point for visiting the UK holiday destinations of Exmouth, Paignton and Sidmouth on day trips. The whole family will enjoy the nearby World Of Country Life attraction; the Salcombe Regis Donkey Sanctuary, Seaton Tramway, Stuart Lines Cruises, Bicton Park and Creaby Adventure Park are also popular sites to visit. However, seeing any of those sites requires you to leave the park, and there’s plenty to do. in that you won’t want to go anywhere else. Your kids almost certainly won’t!
To get started, let’s take a look at the accommodations. There are 6 levels of houses, or ‘caravans’ as they are known locally, to choose from. They range from the basic ‘Standard’ classes to the luxurious ‘Platinum’ and ‘Prestige’ classes and have capacity for 6 people. Family dogs are welcome in the ‘Standard’ and ‘Standard Plus’ units. They also offer several kinds of adapted houses, well prepared for wheelchair access inside and out.
Once you’ve settled into your caravan, it’s time to explore the facilities. And there is so much to explore! Devon Cliffs Holiday Park is a family-focused establishment, and there is no shortage of activities for everyone to take part in. There are so many fun things for kids to do here that adults will probably be envious. For the most part, the activities are divided into 2 areas: SportsZone and SplashZone.
In the SportsZone you will find a sports court for basketball, tennis or volleyball, a climbing wall and a Golf Aventura course. There is a laser tag facility available, as is bike hire. There are also several sports training programs to choose from, some for all ages and some just for kids. Everyone can learn some tips on archery or fencing, while children and teenagers can hone their soccer skills.
At SplashZone, all ages can access multi-level pool complexes, both indoor and outdoor, with slides and water slides, and swimming lessons are available for kids. For even more fun, for your childrenthere are 4 ‘toys’ you can rent… for your children. This is where envy could set in!
They can choose between the Aqua Glider (a cross between a jet ski and a bumper car), a pedal boat, a Water Walker (a floating plastic balloon that they get into and maneuver around the pool) or an Aqua Jet. Remember the Styrofoam surfboard you paddled on as a kid? Well, think of this as an infinitely cooler, submersible, motorized version. Too bad you can’t use it!
After all that time playing, you’re probably hungry or thirsty, and there are plenty of options here, too. Some of their options are very well known, such as Burger King, Papa John’s pizza and, surprise, a Starbucks. Yes, they are here too. There is also more traditional English food such as a fish and chip shop. You will also find Strikes Sports Bar, Beachcomber Bar And Restaurant, a ‘buffet and grill’ and several cafes, one by the pool. So you’re well covered for meals and libations.
If you prefer to prepare your own meals in your camper’s kitchenette, you’ll find a well-stocked convenience store, an unlicensed bakery and liquor store, and a candy store for a treat. Or your kids do. There is also a gift shop, laundry, ATM, pay phones, and a rental shop for your convenience. A ‘rental shop’ is a rental store, here you can rent anything from a hair dryer to tennis equipment if you choose to pack light.
For entertainment, its offer is divided between Daytime, for the whole family, and Nighttime, only for adults. Evening entertainment may include cabaret-style or musical variety shows, or circus-style acts. Daytime entertainment could include the teddy bear picnic, the zoo troop focused on conservation and education, or Ned’s party dance show. Some of these shows run throughout the season (March to November) and others are only available on specific dates.
Most Devon Cliffs Holiday Park package deals are for 3 nights, but depending on dates and availability, you can probably book your visit to stay longer. Considering what they provide you with and the staff they must employ to provide it, their prices are very reasonable and specials are frequently offered through the Haven Holidays website.
