Music is an important part of the entire MySpace experience. And, MySpace has very kindly designed its site so that you can add a song to your profile. There are quite a few songs to choose from; a visit to the Music section of MySpace makes it painfully obvious.
I say “painfully” because if you visit a lot of MySpace profiles, your ears might be pounding from the cacophony of voices and musical instruments you’ll be subjected to.
You are probably already aware of what I am talking about here. The music on some people’s pages can drive a sane person crazy! People often post a song that has some kind of meaning to them on their profile, or one that they have chosen as the “theme song” of their life.
But it’s terribly annoying… and rude, according to some… to be subjected to that music to check someone’s profile. It also seems that the page loads slower than it should, as it seems that the song needs to be started before the profile page loads completely.
Do not misunderstand. I’m not a music hater. In fact, I love music! In fact, I usually listen to music while online. That’s one of the reasons why the music on the MySpace profile bothers me so much. It interferes with my own music that I want to listen to!
And, if you happen to click away from someone’s profile page to see a photo or something else they posted, then go back to the profile, the music starts again from the beginning of the song! People need to realize that music they find beautiful or relaxing can be very annoying to others.
So how do you stop MySpace music from autoplaying? Music on your own profile and anyone else’s? Actually it is very simple. Log into your MySpace account as usual, and in the box that has your default image inside, you’ll see a list of things you can do.
You’re looking for the one that says “Account Settings.” When you find it, click on it. It will take you to another larger box that says “My Account Settings.” Scroll down until you see “Music Settings.” See right next to those words where it says “Change Settings”? Click on that link.
Now, you will see two settings under “My Music Settings”. One says “Disable autostart my player” and the other says “Disable autostart band songs”. The band’s songs are what MySpace for some reason calls the music on everyone’s profile except yours, and not just the actual band profiles.
Choose both options by clicking on the small boxes with your mouse. Then click the “Change Settings” button to save what you just changed.
You’ve done it! You no longer have to worry about music on anyone else’s MySpace profile, including yours!
