A walker is an object used to help your baby move before he can walk. Most baby walkers are built with a plastic or metal frame. There is a seat that is suspended in the center allowing the baby’s feet to touch the floor. There are wheels attached to the bottom to allow the baby room to be moved around.
Although some people feel that baby walkers are not safe, a voluntary safety standard was issued in 1997. This standard made it mandatory that a rubber friction strip be added to the base of the walker. This helps keep the walker from rolling off the edge of the stairs.
Some things to consider when buying a baby walker include safety, testing the display model, the comfort of your baby, the type of walker, and accessories.
When it comes to safety, make sure the walker meets the safety standard and is stable. When testing the model with a screen, test it to make sure it won’t pinch your fingers when folded (or unfolded). Also check that your baby’s feet touch the floor at the shortest height setting. Try to stay away from walkers. Your baby could push it and fall or push the walker off the edge. As for accessories, make sure that your baby enjoys them and that they don’t break and swallow them.
Walkers can be fun for your baby, but use them with caution. Don’t leave your child alone. Be sure to keep an eye on your child and they will have fun.
