It may or may not be apparent to you, but I love playing and blogging about fantasy baseball. I mean, what game can give an owner/blogger like me a legitimate reason to watch six to ten games a night?
Okay, I admit that sometimes it can be hard to keep up with my teams AND blog at the same time. But fantasy baseball is far superior to fantasy football for many reasons.
First, fantasy baseball requires an incredible amount of strategy, thinking, and analysis. No successful fantasy baseball owner can win the game on their own. While the same is true of fantasy football, most of the strategy and thinking comes in the draft, as well as on the Thursday or Friday before weekend games. Fantasy baseball owners are involved in day-to-day management (for the most part), and 162 game management just drives lazy fans away from the game of fantasy baseball.
With that added dimension of true strategy and thinking, fantasy baseball owners are fairly rewarded for their efforts. Log in every day and manage your list, and you’ll probably be better off than that owner who hasn’t logged in for the last 130 days. More often than not, this is not true for fantasy football owners. Some owners can just select a team and forget about it, stealing wins and usable players from owners who really care.
Another benefit of playing fantasy baseball is that there are a LOT of games (NO WAY!). If you turned on your TV and watched MLB baseball every night on ESPN, ESPN2, or any similar network, you could probably watch every MLB team at least once. The same can’t be said for the NFL: While there are many different games on their home networks, many fans won’t get the chance to watch multiple NFL teams play over the course of a season.
With daily scores, daily surprises and lots of great plays. This is more to do with baseball in general than fantasy baseball, but it’s really cool when you can turn on your TV and go online to find new scores and news practically every day. Over the course of a normal NFL week, many news reports focus on previews and reviews, as well as the occasional Chad Ocho Cinco story or injury report.
Although the game may be more difficult, fantasy baseball easily beats fantasy football as the best fantasy game. While fantasy football can provide bursts of excitement on Sunday afternoons and Monday nights, fantasy baseball is an exciting game that will really help you grow in your love of the national pastime.
