I want you to suspend disbelief for a second. Imagine someone asks you to paint a door. And imagine that they have threatened you, they will shoot you if they are not satisfied with your work. What quality work do you think you would do? The minimum to survive? Of course not. You would do your best.
Now think of that plumber who did such a lousy job for you. What quality work do you think you do when you work in your own home or for close friends? Much better than it managed for you, that’s for sure.
The simple fact is that most people don’t do their best work most of the time. They settle for a standard that is much lower than they would if the job seemed really important to them.
Now imagine that the next plumber you hire is an ace. They give you the same quality of finish as if it were your own home. Which plumber would you use again? What plumber would you tell all your friends about?
Being an ace is often a state of mind. If we start a job thinking that it is not an important job, we will not do our best and we will not do it very well. However, if we consider that a job is important, we will do our best and be a true ace.
Let’s consider how to apply this to earn money. Over the years, I have tried to help quite a few people who were looking to improve their financial situation. In most cases, these people have not been successful. Why? Because they don’t become aces. They switch from one money-making scheme to another, never sticking with a method long enough to give it a fair chance.
However, I do know some very successful people, real aces. And without exception, they have stuck to an idea and put quality time and work into that idea. They haven’t been tempted when a new money-making idea circulates; they have continued to do one thing well. And they have succeeded.
So get rid of that butterfly mentality inside of you. Ignore those tantalizing calls from the gurus. Stick with doing something until you really become an ace.
